Tried a new channel #reps #workout #lowimpact

These are both pretty much low impact, as I’d picked them out for yesterday’s workout, in a mood to avoid skipping or jumping.


Wish American homes were generally designed with fucking ceiling fans. I’m pretty much going to be bitching about the heat for the next two months. The air was still and sort of dead-ish in the dining room where I was working out, since the house is closed off when the morning cool sizzles off. I just came upstairs and there’s a giant sun puddle going down the middle of it, including where I fucking sit.

I have a cheap, vinyl fucking chair. It’s really comfy to sit in when it’s 81 degrees in the room. Outside it’s 88, but it’s just getting worse this week. It’s gonna be 99 on Saturday and 100 fucking degrees on Sunday.

  • Did once along with the video, which is repeated rounds of the below in 30-second intervals, no rest intervals in the 30-minute set. I liked it! If I were to repeat I’d have 10-second rest intervals, and I’d maybe do less rounds but longer working sets, and also would swap out mat jumps for some of the mountain climbers.

The Page of Pentacles, like the pages of all the suits, is a card of new beginnings, of inspiration and the initial stages of a creative project or venture. Pentacles correspond to the alchemical element of earth, and in this sense the coin that the Page holds may symbolize the beginnings of sensual awareness not only in terms of money and its value but also in terms of a growing awareness of the importance of health and other material needs.

Card 3, advice: Knight of Swords

Work: In relation to work questions, this is a particularly good omen if you are looking for work. A job that is just what you’ve been hoping for may suddenly come your way. If already employed, things are about to get a lot busier, in a very positive way. You will be getting so much accomplished that you may make your peers look bad. That’s mostly their problem, but don’t be obnoxious about it.

Finances: With regard to money, the picture looks good when the Knight appears. You may receive some cash that you weren’t expecting. Don’t spend it all in one place. Your return on investments are looking good. Keep doing what you’re doing. Share your wealth in whatever way you can.

Health: The Knight of Swords points to relatively good news with regard to health, but you may be told to slow down a little. If so, do as you’re told. The Knight has an element of somewhat grandiose energy and behavior. Yet doing your own homework into what’s ailing you can be helpful. You can harness your own healing energy and power now. I’ve been doing this! I haven’t exercised in two days and I don’t feel like doing it today either. I’m probably just going to try a new YouTube channel / person & follow along to the videos. I don’t feel like jumping, so low impact. Unfortunately I also don’t feel like doing ashtanga, beyond the opening and finishing bits. Those I greatly enjoy.

Spirituality: In the context of spiritual questions, the Knight points to a need for silence and space to deepen your understanding. It’s hard to increase your spirituality if you’re running around like a chicken with your head cut off. Remember one of the greatest affirmations ever offered to the world: Peace. Be still.

Plans for the day will include some watercolor work, and I need to place a new Craig’s List ad, updating the images folder with some of my newest work. I’m also going to spend an hour laying in the sun before it gets too hot, and I need to move my body in some way for at least an hour, even if I’m not into warrior style anymore. I think I’m going to sit next. I haven’t in a little bit, but I think I need to get back there.

Card 1, within: XIV Temperance

Introduction: Temperance is a card about balance, in many ways, and relationships of all kinds. Friendships, family, romantic partnerships, and work partnerships all need your attention. This is also a card about alchemy or mixing and matching. You may have to try several approaches to things before you find what is truly right for you.

General: Although in general all your relationships are likely to be going quite well, you may need to look at your deeper personal issues and see if or how these are standing in your way. And if they are, how to work through them and integrate them. The idea now is to do what it takes to find balance, in yourself, in your relationships, and with your goals and aspirations.

Health: Balance and moderation is the key. Are you eating well, sleeping well, playing and working enough, getting enough exercise? Look at where you might be out of balance and then remedy this. Moderation is definitely the way to good health right now. I’m definitely letting go of the attachment to exercise at the moment. I don’t know if it’s just a phase or more of a long term thing.

Spirituality: This is an important time to meditate and to listen to your inner voice for guidance, and if you need help, to ask for it. Both from your higher self and from others.

Card 2, without: 5 of Wands

Introduction: The 5 of Wands often refers to competition. Usually this is in the career/work arena, but sometimes it can refer to romantic rivals. Don’t be afraid of competing, know that you have something to offer, and can be successful. But you have to try, to see results.

General: When this card appears, your need to believe in yourself is stronger than ever now. Hold your head up high, and have faith that you will end up in the place that is right for you. You may be thinking of making a career change. Know that you can be successful, if so. If you say so… I’m still doing the illustration anyway.

Spirituality: It’s difficult to grow spiritually if you are running around like a chicken with your head cut off. Take time to rest, to do nothing. Create space for yourself to be quiet and hear the music of the spheres. Life is not all about competition. Everyone needs room sometimes to just be. Give yourself this gift of time and space, and you should see and feel spiritual growth in response.

Keywords: Strength in opposition, perseverance, unwavering, unrelenting, powerful, great of heart. Conquer through heart, integrity, greatness. Point of no return. Tip of the spear. Show of force. Righteous force. Force now beyond your control. Reality bearing down on you. Trail blazing. Even if you are getting beat up right now, you were made for this and have the skills to succeed.

Card 3, advice: 10 of Swords

Introduction: Like many of the Swords suit, the 10 of Swords does carry an unpleasant connotation, but it is also not necessarily the end of the world. When the 10 appears, however, it is a clear signal to be careful about where you put your trust.

General: In general, when the 10 comes up in relation to a question as to whether you can believe what a person is telling you, or trust that a situation is stable, this is a pretty clear answer of “no.” However, try to bear in mind that whenever a door closes, another door opens. You are being guided to a situation that is better for you. Trust yourself and trust in the universe.

Work: The appearance of this card may signal that your work situation is about to come to an end. Your best bet is to get your ducks in a row and think through what you will do if you do indeed lose your job, for any reason. You may have been treated badly by someone. Don’t waste your time and precious energy plotting revenge. Just get on with the next phase of your life. If you’re looking for work, a potential position that you’d pinned your hopes on may not come through. Above all, don’t give up.

Finances: In terms of money, you may be facing a disappointment. This is not under any circumstances a time to gamble, but it is a time to take stock. If money has taken a downturn for you, or someone you trusted has not come through, be careful not to beat yourself up. This is not the end of the world. Try to think logically and rationally. What now?

Spirituality: You may finally let go of a long, deeply held spiritual belief that has actually been standing in your way. Again, you must be careful where you put your trust in terms of spiritual leaders who may seem to have your best interests at heart but who may actually be looking only to line their pockets. You make a break from the past. This is actually a good thing, although it may be somewhat painful.

I looked at this card 1st because of the Swords problem. This is the “forecast” placement too. Of course, I don’t have a living wage situation to worry about losing.

Here’s a fucking #recipe, #vegan quinoa

Red quinoa with sweet potato & chickpeas

I kept track of my variations from the online recipe, but I’ll link to the instructions. This is a one-pot (cast iron skillet in my case) meal. The flavor in this is incredible. That garam masala is amazing.


  • 1 heaping TBSP coconut oil
  • 2 c. diced sweet potatoes (a small dice is best)
  • ½ red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 heaping tsp minced garlic
  • 2 green chiles, seeded and minced
  • 1 heaping tsp. minced ginger
  • 2 tsp garam masala
  • (optional) ¼ tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 1 c. quinoa, rinsed
  • 1 and 1/2 c water, 1 heaping tsp better than bouillon
  • 1 and ½ c. cooked chickpeas (equal to one 15 oz. can)
  • 1 cup leftover pasta sauce with fresh mushrooms
  • 1/2 chopped cherry tomatoes
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp each salt & pepper, to taste
  • chopped fresh cilantro & about for garnish

I’m getting sick of the Knight of Wands showing up, telling me it’d be a good idea to travel. He was card 1 yesterday. This reading seems to have strong themes of “letting go”, like yesterday, along with the childlike theme of the first card. My legs are stiff from yesterday’s unpleasant but necessary (for a 4-sessions in the week, minimum schedule) and it’s Sunday, the start of a new week. This all points to “probably won’t exercise today”. Maybe I’ll do some pretend shopping on Beach Body, and I will spend all morning thinking about lunch, no doubt.

Card 1, within: Page of Cups

Introduction: When the Page of Cups appears, it’s a signal to allow the childlike side of yourself to come forward. Like most of the Cups suit, the Page is an uplifting and encouraging sign to receive in a tarot reading. It also can indicate that someone – likely someone who is younger than you, is coming your way before long with a message for you.

General: In general, this card shows a need to play, to dream, to have a little fun. When this card appears, it sometimes means that you’ve been taking yourself far too seriously. Margot Fonteyn said “The one important thing I have learned over the years is the difference between taking one’s work seriously and taking one’s self seriously. The first is imperative and the second is disastrous.” Know the difference.

Work: Even if things have been lousy in your job for the last ten years, the appearance of this card shows that there is cause for hope and positive anticipation. Card 3, advice: XII The Hanged Man

I wonder if I’ll keep exercising if I’m so bored

Hopefully the new sneakers I finally ordered will help inspire me, but I’m doubtful. I looked for the cheap ones & ordered two different $60 pairs from Zappos. The plan is the keep the ones I like best. It’s a lot more doable that the $1,500 I’d need for a bike & peripherals. Plus I don’t have to face any fear (Dosch Road makes experienced bikers raise their eyebrows) and I’m in my (bored to shit) comfort zone.

Anyway I did something. It was really shitty getting going right after my nap, but I did it.

Well I’m done with my illustration for the day. I got Sige & Ixchel fully inked and started in with the washes on the latter. I cleaned up my work space and now I’ll relax, having had a most excellent vegan lunch earlier. I think one of the best things I do, overall, is potatoes. It’s one of the more reliably good when I completely ad lib, at any rate. I should try another recipe soon though. Been wanting to make Indian lemon rice.

It’s going to suck trying to work in The Tower soon. That, of course, is my space atop The Hill. It’s coldest in winter and hottest in summer, and its advent in my life is somehow unsurprising. It’s very tarot card somehow.


I’ll have to get my workouts started by 9am. It’s at least 10 degrees cooler downstairs when it’s hot out, but still. Charlie says we can maybe get one of those standalone ACs at least for my office (and you know I’d sleep with it too). I haven’t lived without AC ever, except for India visits, and the very early part of my life that I can’t remember. When did they invent it? I am of the generation that grew up without the internet. I can remember when microwaves were a BFD.

The industrial fans I got are ridiculously loud too, made for warehouses loud. It’s like trying to sleep next to a revving airplane.

Just looked at my iCal to see if I could skip working out (again), but I only have three times this week, and there was only one good one in the mix. Bah. Grumble, grumble. Well it doesn’t even matter if I start at 5pm. I’ll get to it. In the meantime I might take a nap. (My life is very exciting, lol.)
