Thursday workout II

Earlier I got tricked into a hike up the hill in the snow. All these things I’d never done before, like shoveling! I’d somehow managed to lead a very sheltered – if distinctly non acquisitive or material in any way typical – existence. I have to admit it was very pretty.

Warmup: (10/30×6=4min) jump rope intervals

DAY 11: Santa’s On His Way!! By Jori

This was actually a pretty low burn for being a Julia workout. It was a little too choppy, I think.

Drill #1: Time = 39min I’m super slow w/ manmakers (a 6-part move) ANYway, and this was my first time doing so many reps with 20lbs in each hand.
2 Exercises, Descending Ladder (start from 8 reps) This means 36 reps per component of each move, meaning 72 tricep push-ups within the manmakers.
1. Manmakers 40
2. Handstand, switch lunges + criss cross

Drill #2: Tabata Pair: 20:10 (4 min) x 8 Didn’t much like this round. Would replace if repeating this workout.
1. Twerknados 20s @ either end of mat. Broad jump toward one, pick up w/ alt hand, 180 jump. Put weight down & broad jump to other weight.
2. x2 Right Side Squat Walks + Hammer Curl + I hate pivoting on a carpet so I changed this to lateral raises after 2 round Press OH as you rotate torso to the right in a lunge20 Decided to go light on the weights here & take it easy on that left arm.

Drill #3Time = 10min
2 Exercises, Descending Ladder (start from 8 reps)
1. Kettlebell Swings Slams 35
2. Commando and 3 Mat Jumps Start w/ legs off the mat to one side & go down 1st on that arm.

Drill #4:  (4 min AMRAP) 10 reps each
Score = 1 rounds & first two moves of 2nd round
1. Jump Squats
2. Hand Release Push-ups
3. DB Walking (or forward) Lunges (L+ R = 2 so 1=1)
4. Speed Skaters (2=1)

Drill #5:
2 Exercises, Descending Ladder (start from 8 reps) Time = 15min I didn’t wear my vest for any part of today’s workout, and I still considered bailing at the beginning of this ladder. Maybe it’s the extra outdoor activities (shoveling after yesterday’s workout & a mini hike in the snow before today’s)
1. Box Jump Burpees
2. Inchworm to Spider Push-up with Leg Sweep to side (“Jori Style”) Alt. L/R

Drill #6: Tabata Pair: 4min: 20:10 x 8)
1. Mt. Climbers
2. Rollback Star Jump + Tuck Jump

A #hike to Ramona Falls was today’s workout

Some more pictures here. I never take all that many though.

It was just under 7 miles, and much easier of a hike than last week’s Eagle Creek Trail! My right contact had been bugging the shit out of me the whole drive up… I’d taken it out once already, at home, and rinsed it again, obviously not well enough. And then I didn’t want to stop & pick any up at my “last chance” town strip before, because poor. But finally I took it out & popped it in my mouth for a second and that worked.

I’m starting a new diet! I’ll talk about that more in the Batcave later. I need to reestablish some discipline in the land of unintentional sloth & over indulgence.

#Hiking ideas?

OK now back to work. I’m on the illustration again today. I always feel better when I’m working! (And exercising. And meditation is awesome too, when I’m in that mode, which I haven’t been lately.)

Big Lava Bed

I kinda want to see The Big Lava Bed… Could I do a 13-mile hike? If I were prepared for it, totally. This one is rated moderate in difficulty. We were near there last weekend but all the roads around it are dirt, and so we were in the wrong car. Am looking for a map of the 13-mile hike. iPhones don’t work reliably in the mountains and it seems like we never know where we’re going up there, lol. I’ve poked around on the internet, but all the hiking map sites want a subscription. May do a trial thing but set up an alert in my iCal so I cancel it in 13 days.

painted hills
The Painted Hills

Also I saw Painted Hills on Instagram & it looks totally awesome, but it’s a 4.5 hour drive away. That’s totally an overnight trip. The trailhead of Big Lava Bed is about 2 hours. I guess if you’re spending 4 hours driving and however long hiking 13 miles, you might want to spend the night someplace close too…

ice caves
Ice Caves

There’s also The Ice Caves, but that sounds a little claustrophobic… not my first choice. Makes me think of the campy horror movie about a group of female hikers that go caving & picked off by these albino cave human / monsters one by one.

Today’s reading #tarot

Right-o. Gonna wash my face now & put on some jeans. Eyes are tired. Slept in my contacts. Gonna take a walk up the hill with Charlie though. Is this a week off exercise? Stay tuned. Leftovers are for lunch with some more veggies… maybe I’ll make some rice too. Throw the delicious quinoa on top.

Card 1, within: XIV Temperance

Introduction: Temperance is a card about balance, in many ways, and relationships of all kinds. Friendships, family, romantic partnerships, and work partnerships all need your attention. This is also a card about alchemy or mixing and matching. You may have to try several approaches to things before you find what is truly right for you.

General: Although in general all your relationships are likely to be going quite well, you may need to look at your deeper personal issues and see if or how these are standing in your way. And if they are, how to work through them and integrate them. The idea now is to do what it takes to find balance, in yourself, in your relationships, and with your goals and aspirations.

Health: Balance and moderation is the key. Are you eating well, sleeping well, playing and working enough, getting enough exercise? Look at where you might be out of balance and then remedy this. Moderation is definitely the way to good health right now. I’m definitely letting go of the attachment to exercise at the moment. I don’t know if it’s just a phase or more of a long term thing.

Spirituality: This is an important time to meditate and to listen to your inner voice for guidance, and if you need help, to ask for it. Both from your higher self and from others.

Card 2, without: 5 of Wands

Introduction: The 5 of Wands often refers to competition. Usually this is in the career/work arena, but sometimes it can refer to romantic rivals. Don’t be afraid of competing, know that you have something to offer, and can be successful. But you have to try, to see results.

General: When this card appears, your need to believe in yourself is stronger than ever now. Hold your head up high, and have faith that you will end up in the place that is right for you. You may be thinking of making a career change. Know that you can be successful, if so. If you say so… I’m still doing the illustration anyway.

Spirituality: It’s difficult to grow spiritually if you are running around like a chicken with your head cut off. Take time to rest, to do nothing. Create space for yourself to be quiet and hear the music of the spheres. Life is not all about competition. Everyone needs room sometimes to just be. Give yourself this gift of time and space, and you should see and feel spiritual growth in response.

Keywords: Strength in opposition, perseverance, unwavering, unrelenting, powerful, great of heart. Conquer through heart, integrity, greatness. Point of no return. Tip of the spear. Show of force. Righteous force. Force now beyond your control. Reality bearing down on you. Trail blazing. Even if you are getting beat up right now, you were made for this and have the skills to succeed.

Card 3, advice: 10 of Swords

Introduction: Like many of the Swords suit, the 10 of Swords does carry an unpleasant connotation, but it is also not necessarily the end of the world. When the 10 appears, however, it is a clear signal to be careful about where you put your trust.

General: In general, when the 10 comes up in relation to a question as to whether you can believe what a person is telling you, or trust that a situation is stable, this is a pretty clear answer of “no.” However, try to bear in mind that whenever a door closes, another door opens. You are being guided to a situation that is better for you. Trust yourself and trust in the universe.

Work: The appearance of this card may signal that your work situation is about to come to an end. Your best bet is to get your ducks in a row and think through what you will do if you do indeed lose your job, for any reason. You may have been treated badly by someone. Don’t waste your time and precious energy plotting revenge. Just get on with the next phase of your life. If you’re looking for work, a potential position that you’d pinned your hopes on may not come through. Above all, don’t give up.

Finances: In terms of money, you may be facing a disappointment. This is not under any circumstances a time to gamble, but it is a time to take stock. If money has taken a downturn for you, or someone you trusted has not come through, be careful not to beat yourself up. This is not the end of the world. Try to think logically and rationally. What now?

Spirituality: You may finally let go of a long, deeply held spiritual belief that has actually been standing in your way. Again, you must be careful where you put your trust in terms of spiritual leaders who may seem to have your best interests at heart but who may actually be looking only to line their pockets. You make a break from the past. This is actually a good thing, although it may be somewhat painful.

I looked at this card 1st because of the Swords problem. This is the “forecast” placement too. Of course, I don’t have a living wage situation to worry about losing.

If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him. – Linji Yixuan.

Keywords: Freedom from mental prisons. Death of ego. Death of ignorance. Let go of the origin of things, or truth being somewhere outside yourself. Leap of faith. Removal of impurities.
